House Therapy & Feng Shui
House Therapy is based on the ancient art of Feng Shui. this art focuses on arranging objects, and space to achieve harmony and balance. Feng Shui translates to the words “Wind Water.” Wind represents movement and change and Water represents abundance and depth - I think of this translation as meaning the energy around us is constantly shifting and creating opportunity for abundance. Through House tHerapy we harness those opportunities.
multiple schools of Feng Shui and plenty of practitioners exist, I believe there are many paths up the same mountain, just as there are many teachers of the same subject - the one that resonants is the correct path for each of us.
House Therapy and my principles are based in a Heart-Centered practice meaning, I come to a space to find how we can work with it rather than what may be working against us. I will strive to create the most nourishing space for every client.
Feng Shui is based on 3 principles:
Chi, the Bagua & the Five Elements
Chi
Chi (or Qi) is also referred to as the life force energy. Chi has many names within many cultures but simply put it is the breath of life and it makes up everything around us. Chi is the energy of the universe and the energy of life itself. Just like the electromagnetic energy which flows through everything Chi have two opposing sides. This energy represents a true balance of nature: the balance of Yin and Yang. Chi is the energy of harmony. When Chi is balanced in a person or space it creates vitality it is positive, when Chi becomes stagnant or unbalanced it can create challenges. This is one thing Feng Shui seeks to remedy through thoughtful placement and balance.
The Bagua
The Bagua is made up of eight spaces representing eight key life areas plus the middle space representing harmony of all eight - this creates nine total life areas and the complete Bagua. The Bagua may also be referred to as the Energy Map representing where energy moves or stagnates within the key life areas. These areas are represented in our homes and spaces in nine specific spots. We can use this map to evaluate and enhance the energy of a space. This Bagua may look different to you as I represent the Guas as nine circular auras over a space representing their relationship to each other a well as the relationship of the Bagua as a tool to bring the heavenly here to Earth.
Five Elements Theory
Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. This theory is based on a Chinese philosophy that these five elements are the building blocks of nature and that all things are made of a combination of these. Within this philosophy there are three cycles:
The Creative or Fueling Cycle where one element help to create the next, for example Wood feeds Fire.
The Draining or Balancing Cycle where one element lessens the previous element, for example Water corroded and so lessens Metal.
The Controlling or Managing where one element stops and greatly lessens another element, for example Water extinguishes Fire.
CREATIVE/FUELING
Water NOURISHES Wood.
Wood FEEDS Fire.
Fire GENERATES Ash / Earth.
Earth FORMS Ore / Metal.
Metal FORTIFIES Water.
DRAINING/BALANCING
Water CORRODES Metal.
Wood CONSUMES Water.
Fire BURNS Wood.
Earth REDUCES Fire.
Metal DEPLETES Earth.
CONTROLLING/MANAGING
Water EXTINGUISHES Fire.
Wood BREAKS UP Earth
Fire MELTS Metal.
Earth DAMS Water.
Metal CHOPS Wood.
Each element represents unique characteristics and as with all things Feng Shui we need a balance of all five in our lives and homes for an optimal environment. To understand more about each of the five elements and to determine which elements are highest for you check out my Element Quiz.
